Your next opportunity 

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Environment and Regulatory Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking programmed inspections and investigations of, and develop and implement management plans, policies and programs for the relevant functional areas. These include but not limited to: on-site sewage management (OSSM), swimming pools, protection of the environment, public health, and food safety.

You will ensure the application of relevant areas of legislation, including but not limited to: the Local Government Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Swimming Pools Act, Public Health Act, Food Act, and any other relevant legislation.

Essential selection criteria include (full criteria in the Position Description below):

  • Degree qualifications in Environmental Health or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of recent experience in a similar role
  • Contemporary industry knowledge and demonstrated experience in all environmental health functions, including the competent delivery of inspections, investigations and enforcement
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and negotiation skills, and the ability to interpret legislation and apply technical knowledge for the resolution of complex matters
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to contribute to the fulfilment of team goals
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to implement change
  • Demonstrated ability to meet scheduled deadlines by utilising high level planning and organisational skills
  • Current and valid C Class Driver Licence

Be rewarded

This position is placed at Grade 9 of Council’s salary system. The salary offered is in the range of $78,785 to $88,620 plus 11% Superannuation (plus 8% market allowance), dependent upon competency level and in accordance with Council’s Salary Policy.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 35 hours a week. The role offers 1 regular rostered day off (RDO) every 3 weeks.
