About the opportunity
The NSW Department of Planning and Environment, through the Strong Start Cadetship Program, has provided Council with funding to subsidise the university tuition fees associated with upskilling an existing staff member who is not currently employed as a planner.
The grant funding is to be used by Council to pay for the successful employee's tuition fees (either part-time or full-time) for an undergraduate certificate, graduate certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Planning at an Australian university.
The successful employee will:
- Commit to studying an undergraduate certificate, graduate certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Planning selected from one of the approved courses listed below:

- Provide Council with evidence of successful completion of each enrolled subject.
- Undertake all relevant course work and study outside of Council business hours.
Essential:
- You must be a current permanent employee of Council
- Demonstrated interest in the Town Planning field
- High level of computer literacy, including demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office software packages
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to undertake mutually agreed on and off the job structured training program
What we can offer
- Payment of tuition fees (either part-time or full-time) for an undergraduate certificate, graduate certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Planning up to the value of $25,000
- Mentoring by a Council-employed Planner
Please note: The successful employee will remain in their current position at Council during and at completion of the program as Council does not currently have a funded Cadet Planner position within the organisational structure.
